THE OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU

 

The Intensive Supports Consultant works collaboratively with school-based personnel, student achievement teams, specialized professional staff, and community agencies to provide advisory, consultative, and school-based services for students who experience social and/or emotional challenges. The Intensive Supports Consultant works in elementary and high schools and plays a vital role in the school community by directly contributing to creating a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.

 

This position is temporary for approximately 18 months.

WHAT WILL YOU DO 

  • Delivers intervention, education and awareness services to students and staff to support a safe and healthy school environment by:

    • Providing leadership in the promotion, development and delivery of programs and services that support the socio-behavioural and emotional development of students, including providing in-service to staff as appropriate.
    • Actively participating and promoting the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the learning community in all planning, school operations, interactions, and decisions.
    • Working with teams using the Intervention First Model to identify factors that contribute to student challenges and recommending evidence-based interventions.
    • Working collaboratively with school-based leaders and school staff to understand the unique strengths and needs of all learners in the school community and provide effective school-level student supports regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ethnic origin, ancestry, culture, socio-economic status, religion, family status, and mental and physical ability.
  • Provides individual and small group student case management to support students by:
    • Providing direct services to students who experience difficulties that significantly impact their capacity to be successful with learning, peer relationships, and general school performance.
    • Participating in Inclusion and Intervention Plan development when appropriate.
    • Maintaining accurate records including, accurate notes, reports, and confidential files.
  • Conducts observations of student referrals to support intervention plans. The plans will assess; social skills, communication, behavioural, and sensory needs and provide recommendations on intervention strategies.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

Apply today if you meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and training and experience supporting neurodiverse learners.
  • Must have experience working with children and youth who experience social or emotional difficulty, particularly related to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Knowledge of functional behaviour assessments and developing effective Inclusion and Intervention Plans.

  • Knowledge of community supports, particularly related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and Neurodiversity. 
  • Strong knowledge and application at both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of Intervention First.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating exceptional ability to collaborate with students and parents/guardians in decision making.
  • Strong judgement and exceptional time management, organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and focused listening skills. 
  • Ability to challenge and be candid while maintaining strong relationships demonstrating emotional intelligence, tact, and ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and implement student-centered interventions based on the division’s Intervention First model. 
  • Proven decision-making and analytical skills. 
  • Computer proficiency required including advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and Division specific software (Clevr). 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
