THE OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU

 

Occupational Therapists in schools help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally by helping them improve their fine motor, visual motor integration, sensory processing and other occupational performance skills.  They collaborate with educators, caregivers, other professionals, and community agencies to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students, and strengthen connections between home and school. 

 

This temporary position is for the 2025–2026 school year, with various part-time opportunities available.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  • Promotes tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity within the school community.
  • Advises students, school personnel, parents of referred students, and division-based personnel with respect to fine gross motor, visual motor, and sensory processing concerns and helps others to understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
  • Collaborates with teachers, caregivers, and administrators to find effective solutions to occupational performance issues, learning and challenges with behavior.
  • Completes occupational performance, fine gross motor, visual motor integration and sensory processing assessments and reports.
  • Supports the implementation of related recommendations to support student achievement.
  • Works with SA teams using the Intervention First model to identify factors and needs that contribute to student challenges, as well as, recommend evidence-based interventions, and when appropriate, participates in intervention plans and development.
  • When appropriate, provides occupational therapy services in the following forms: classroom based intervention, whole classroom programming and consultation.
  • Provides training and in-services in areas related to fine gross motor, visual motor and sensory processing development and disorders to teachers and support staff.
  • Liaise with community agencies, such as Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Child & Youth Services, Audiologist, Private Speech-Language Pathologist, Private Occupational Therapists, other school divisions, ECIP, SPARC, and the Early Learning Centre.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

Apply today if you meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or entry level Master degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university.
  • Must be licensed with Saskatchewan Society of Occupational Therapists.
  • Demonstrated abilities to develop and maintain good working relationships with students, parents/guardians, and all levels of staff within school systems, local and provincial organizations, and with a broad cross section of individuals and agencies within the local community.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
