THE OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU

The Assessment Data Specialist plays a critical role in supporting student data-driven decision making across Regina Public Schools. This position focuses on the acquisition, integration, analysis, and visualization of student data including achievement, demographic, perceptual, and structural datasets. The work of this position supports educational planning, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The specialist works closely with the Supervisor of Assessment and cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and actionable insights. 

 

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO

 

1. Provide data management, data integrity and statistical analysis within the Division by:

  • Acquiring, cleaning, and managing large-scale datasets related to student achievement, demographics, perceptions, and school structures.
  • Developing and maintaining a data warehouse along with relevant dashboards and reports that support strategic planning and school improvement efforts.
  • Applying statistical and machine learning techniques to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for intervention.

2. Support and develop technical tools and resources ensuring adherence to current standards and regulations:

  • Building and maintaining data pipelines and tools for efficient data processing and visualization.
  • Contributing to the development of a centralized data warehouse for student assessment modeling.
  • Ensuring compliance with national and international research standards and data privacy regulations.

3. Collaborate and support teams in a variety of departments/work units and at all levels within the school division by:

  • Building relationships to understand data requirements and working closely with educators, coordinators, and administrators to support accurate and relevant interpretation of data to translate findings into actionable strategies.
  • Supporting the Supervisor of Assessment in preparing data for Ministry reporting, presentations to stakeholders, and internal reviews.
  • Assisting in the development of benchmarks and performance indicators aligned with the Division’s Strategic Plan.
  • Providing training and support to staff at various levels within the division on data literacy, interpretation, and use of analytical tools.
  • Preparing and presenting findings in formats accessible to diverse audiences, including educators, parents, and community stakeholders

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

Apply today if you meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics or related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in data analysis, developing reports with actionable insights and creating database queries.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. R, Python, SPSS), data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) and advanced Excel tools.
  • Experience working in a larger public sector organization (500+ staff) is required.
  • Experience with web development (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related frameworks) supporting the creation of interactive data dashboards and user-friendly reporting tools is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the education sector is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of educational data systems, student assessment practices and student success metrics.
  • Knowledge of data governance and privacy standards for student assessment data.
  • Advanced analytical, data mining and statistical modelling skills.
  • Proven skill and ability to use data to tell compelling stories to drive decision making.
  • Exceptional client service orientation with strong judgement and exceptional time management, organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and focused listening skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships demonstrating emotional intelligence, tact, ability to build rapport and present/explain ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language with users of varying expertise and seniority.
  • Proficiency for managing multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes and complete tasks accurately and on time.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency required including advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and industry specific software.
